TTC Silverstone Finale
The Triumph Triple Challenge Championship was decided at Donington Park, with Luke Jones winning overall, however that didn't stop the riders battling it out for the remaining Championship places at Silverstone.
Peter Ward took second in the Championship with Tommy Dale finishing in third.Dale started his weekend well by taking pole position ahead of Jones, with Ward in third and Phil Atkinson completing the front row.
Off the line it looked like Ward was going to make a break for it but Jones squeezed past and into the lead. For the next two laps Jones and Ward swapped places four times a lap, providing the Silverstone crowd with jaw-dropping racing. Their antics at the front allowed Dale to close in and by mid race all three were covered by just 0.13secs.The close racing eased up one lap later when Ward had to back off due to arm pump. He decided to use his head and settle for points; he relaxed into third place leaving Dale to chase down Jones.
Jones did his usual trick of putting his head down and gapping the pack, coming over the line 1.55secs ahead of Dale.
The final race of the Triumph Triple Challenge season was also action packed with Dale taking his first race win of the year. Ward had to settle for second place with Atkinson in third. Championship winner Jones had hoped to go out on a high with a win but it wasn't to be due to his gear selector breaking.
The drama started on the opening lap with a crash bringing out the safety car for three laps. Jones who had jumped into the lead bunched everyone up just as the safety car came in and the race was on.
It was the usual suspects at the front with Ward and Jones swapping places relentlessly. At one point there was just 0.08secs separating Ward and Jones as they came over the line. However on lap five Jones managed to get a clear lap and pull a gap on Ward and Dale.
The battle continued between Ward and Dale for second place until Jones went out on lap six due to the broken gear selector. It was at this point that Ward and Dale realised that the win was back in the offering. Dale has been runner up numerous times so this was his opportunity; he fended off the determined Ward to finally take his first win by just 0.132secs.
Dale said: “That was really good I tried to go with Luke but Pete kept out breaking me. I think he was trying to hold me up. Luke then broke down which was unfortunate. I made a little mistake and Pete got under me but then he ran wide so I just went for it. Once again thanks to my Dad, to 11kV and to Power2 Connect.”
Ward said: “That was a great end to the year, thanks to everyone who has helped out. Two good races and going out on a high, I'm happy with that.”
Atkinson said: “The safety car really helped as I was able to rest up a little bit. I'm booked in for my arm pump operation next week so that should sort out the problems I've been having.”
Jones said: “It's a shame the last race ended with a problem. My Triumph hasn't missed a beat all year. I guess it can't be helped.”
Triumph Motorcycles and T3 Racing can confirm the Triumph Triple Challenge will be back for a another action packed season in 2012!
