Another MCN Award for Triumph - Best Naked Bike 2010 is the Speed Triple
From its birth in 1994, the Speed Triple has always been a firm favourite amongst sports bike enthusiasts and Triumph faithfuls alike. Hailed as a modern day classic, it's no surprise that this ready for action sportsbike has won an MCN award.
Shortlisted for the category was the critically acclaimed Ducati Streetfighter, arguably one of the most impressive sportsbikes of 2010. But at 132PS, the Speed Triple has the most powerful version of the 1050cc three-cylinder engine snarling beneath the rider - a champion engine that was never going to be defeated.
Many naked sportsbikes are accused of being 'dumbed-down' versions of their previous faring selves, but with the edge and style the Triumph design team are now infamous for - the Speed Triple was always going to be the real deal.
What the judges said: "When a bike is as great to ride and as stylistically iconic as the Speed Triple, redesigning it is fraught with danger. Fortunately, Triumph pulled it off with panache. The engine and handling have been taken to the next level. A masterful performance."
We wait with baited breath for the release of the much anticipated 2011 model; and we at Laguna's are synchronising with 51 other main Triumph dealerships across the UK to unveil this much awaited machine at a special event on 18th November. We will be doing this at the green shed in Aylesford as well as our Triumph Ashford store at 7pm - check the main news pages for further details.
