Cleaning your motorcycle after it has been in storage for some time is a MUST... it also feels and looks really good once it's done. More importantly though, thoroughly cleaning your bike will allow you to spot any damage. Don't just stop at wiping down the fairing to make it sparkle - get right in there with our top cleaning products below…
PRESSURE - Air can escape the tyres slowly over time so be sure to check your tyre pressure.
HEALTH - Check for signs of excessive wear, punctures and balding.
TREAD - The legal minimum tread for a motorcycle tyre is 1mm, so make sure your tyres aren't going to get you into trouble.
WEAR - Worn pads will need replacing before you hit the road this year.
WIRES - Check your brake lines for cracks and leaks and make sure that your brake fluid is full.
TEST - Try out both brakes separately to make sure that they work smoothly and responsively.
CHARGE - If your bike has been sitting still for a while, it may need a charge.
DIRT - Before you start your bike up, check terminals for dust, dirt and corrosion.
CABLES - Make sure all cables are connected securely, safely and neatly. Cables showing signs of wear must be replaced.
CHECK - Check that any old fluids have not gone bad by looking for signs of discolouration.
REFRESH - It is a good idea to completely replace all fluids if your bike has been sitting for a while.
LEVELS - Check the fluid levels and changeover intervals suggested by your manufacturer in your handbook.
Ensure that the steering is smooth while stationary and that all controls for the throttle, clutch, lights and any other functions of your motorcycle are in good working order. It can be a good idea to ask someone to help check these with you so you don't tie yourself in knots!
Check your drive belt or chain for signs of wear and tear and make sure that it is at the correct tension - this will be in your manual. While you're down there, check the teeth on the sprocket and make sure they’re not worn down, causing the chain to slip.
Lubrication is vital to keep your bike in good shape once you've given it a clean. For the safest ride and if your bike has been in storage for a few months, replace all fluids. You should also lubricate your chain - it is what makes you keeps you rolling, after all!

We can introduce you to a selected panel of lenders, which includes manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent. An introduction to a lender does not amount to independent financial advice and we act as their agent for this introduction. Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked directly to the particular franchise you are purchasing your vehicle from, who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, we then seek to introduce you to whichever of the other lenders on our panel is able to make the next best offer of finance for you. Our aim is to secure the best deal you are eligible for from our panel of lenders. Lenders may pay a fixed commission to us for introducing you to them, calculated by reference to the vehicle model or amount you borrow. Different lenders may pay different commissions for such introductions, and manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement, all of which are set by the lender concerned. If you ask us what the amount of commission is, we will tell you in good time before the Finance agreement is executed. All finance applications are subject to status, terms and conditions apply, UK residents only, 18’s or over. Guarantees may be required.
