POSTED: 01/06/2022

Born at night, raised with its rider...

One of the most famous motorcycle lines from Harley-Davidson® has to be the Sportster® range. The bikes in the Sportser® range offer bundles of power, low weight advantages and styling that'll turn heads wherever you ride. Let's take a look back at the Nightster™ and how it fits into the world renowned Sportster® line-up - exploring where it came from and where it is today.

Own the night

Storming onto the scene, the Nightster™ took Harley® fans by surprise. Demanding attention, the Nightster™ took a totally different visual path from the rest of the Sportster® range. Swapping out some of the chrome finish for a black finish and chopping off the fenders for more of a bobber look. Representing a brand new direction for the brand, the Nightster™ stirred up conversations everywhere.

The Nightster™ packed triple-digit speed with reports of it getting to 107mph. From factory, riders would get 58HP and 64Nm torque, which was arguably enough for thrill-seeking cruiser riders. The model was aimed at riders yet to have grey hair and came in at around £8,000.

Cut back on the size

The trend for blacked out cruisers was booming and becoming more popular by the day. In 2009 Harley-Davidson® released a smaller version of the Nightster™ with a blacked-out engine casing and a darker all-round feel. The handlebars pulled closer together and even more of a bobber stance developed, giving the riders what they were craving within this stripped-down cruiser look.

Goodbye for now

Although the Nightster™ was a key transitional trendsetter in the late 2000s and sold out as soon as they came in, Harley-Davidson® discontinued the Nightster™. Although this Sportster® was saying goodbye, for now, the Sportster® range continued for a few more years before making a remastered first appearance with the Sportster® S in 2021.

The return of the Nightster™

Harley-Davidson® has brought back the Nightster™ for the next chapter of the Sportster® legacy. This time, they packed in a huge amount of power utilising the new Revolution Max™ engine and kept weight to a minimum by using only lightweight components. The bike is nimble and lightweight, allowing an easier riding posture than previous versions, with midfoot controls and low rise handlebars.

Bringing the bike into the future, the fuel tank has been reworked and is now located under the seat for a lower centre of gravity. Technology has been adapted around the model, to enhance its natural innovative styling and the airbox cover takes the place of where you'd usually find the fuel tank. Aiming to keep attracting younger riders, Harley-Davidson® has priced this as their entry-level bike, starting at £12,995 with fantastic finance rates available.

We can introduce you to a selected panel of lenders, which includes manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent. An introduction to a lender does not amount to independent financial advice and we act as their agent for this introduction. Our approach is to introduce you first to the manufacturer lender linked directly to the particular franchise you are purchasing your vehicle from, who are usually able to offer the best available package for you, taking into account both interest rates and other contributions. If they are unable to make you an offer of finance, we then seek to introduce you to whichever of the other lenders on our panel is able to make the next best offer of finance for you. Our aim is to secure the best deal you are eligible for from our panel of lenders. Lenders may pay a fixed commission to us for introducing you to them, calculated by reference to the vehicle model or amount you borrow. Different lenders may pay different commissions for such introductions, and manufacturer lenders linked directly to the franchises that we represent may also provide preferential rates to us for the funding of our vehicle stock and also provide financial support for our training and marketing. But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement, all of which are set by the lender concerned. If you ask us what the amount of commission is, we will tell you in good time before the Finance agreement is executed. All finance applications are subject to status, terms and conditions apply, UK residents only, 18’s or over. Guarantees may be required.
